artist Statement

My artistic practice explores the feminine form as an object. Pulling from historical gender stereotyping and the resultant language that surrounds it, my work has spanned across multiple disciplines. Most notably in recent works, I have explored sculpture and textiles as an extension of my established themes and contextual knowledge, utilising methods such as sewing as a reactive process mostly gendered towards women. Working across mediums, I lend from “crafty” techniques and methodology, utilising methods such as collage and papier mache to replicate female anatomy in order to both glorify and objectify it. pulling from artistic influences such as the YBA’s finest and greatest: Tracey Emin and Sarah Lucas, my artistic intention is allow the audience to play the perverted voyeur for a while. This enables conversations of what we as a society regard as sexually appealing: can a manipulation of the “private” areas of the female form be enough to titillate the viewer or does it provoke a repulsed reaction? I have featured in a number of my own works and disciples, putting me at the forefront the public’s reactions and giving a further perspective of how those of us with the anatomy of woman are criticised. Making myself the muse of my own design has occurred through photographic and video mediums such as my “Did it Hurt Tho?” series and my 2025 short film, “Garfield’s Pond” where I stepped into roles outside of myself in order to convey themes of popular culture, religious iconography and to discuss the objectification and substantial pedestal women are put on and held accountable for.
